What We BELIEVE
“…truth which God gave, once for all, to his people
to keep without change through the years.”
Jude 3 (The Living Bible)
God
We believe there is one true, holy God, eternally existing in three persons-a Trinity of Father, Son and Holy-Spirit-each of Whom possesses equally all the attributes of deity and the characteristics of personality as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of the world. (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-14; John 14:25)
Jesus
We believe that Jesus is the eternal second person of the Trinity who was united forever with a true human nature by laying aside His eternal glory and submitting to a miraculous human conception and virgin birth. He lived a life in complete obedience to the Father and voluntarily atoned for the sins of all by dying on the cross as our substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who put their trust and faith in Him alone as the Savior He is. We believe Jesus arose from the dead bodily, was seen by his disciples, and ascended into heaven, where he now sits at the right hand of the Father, where He, the only Mediator between God and humanity, makes intercession for His own. The resurrection is the solid basis for our hope.
(Colossians 1:15-20; 1 Corinthians 15:1-6; 1 John 1:1-4)
the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, sent to the world by the Father and the Son to apply to humankind the saving work of Christ. The Holy Spirit enlightens the minds of sinners, awakens in us a recognition of our need for a Savior. At the point of salvation the Holy Spirit permanently indwells every believer, comforts us, confirms spiritual truth to us, enables our fellowship, and gifts and empowers us for ministry.
(John 14:16-17; Romans 8:14-17; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7)
Salvation
We believe that salvation is a work of free grace through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, and not, either in whole or in part, by acts of human goodness or good works. We believe salvation is given to those who in faith repent of their sins, admit their inability to save themselves, and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
(John 1:12; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9)
the Bible
We believe the Bible to be, by the unique and definitive inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God. The Bible, comprising the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is the full and final revelation of what God wants us to know about Himself and His will. The Bible is the authority on all matters of faith and practice.
(Psalm 11; Matthew 4:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
the Christian Life
We believe the Christian life to be a relationship of faith and obedience to Jesus Christ, guided by God’s written word, the Bible, and lived out not in isolation but in fellowship with God’s people, the Church, whose primary mark is love, whose character is Christ-like, whose ministry is discipleship of others, and whose literal destiny is heaven. We believe that “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 John 4:7-8)
