Deacons’ Ministry
MVPC’s congregation is divided into twelve geographic areas, each served by two deacons who care for members living in their area. Each deacon also serves on at least one of the ministry teams listed here. To see our current Deacons, click here.
- Chancel Ministry
- Each month deacons prepare and serve the communion elements. Deacons also take communion to homebound members and their families. Anyone wishing to receive home communion should contact the church office. Gluten-free bread is always available.
- Financial Assistance Ministry
- Deacons provide short-term emergency financial assistance for members experiencing difficulty meeting essential needs. Each request is carefully considered on a case by case basis, and all requests are confidential.
- Hospitality Team Ministry
- Hospitality Team provides service assisting at receptions following memorial services.
- Hugs Ministry
- Deacons provide a handmade blanket and hat to the family of each baby born to MVPC members and handmade prayer shawls to those who are sick and/or hospitalized.
- Memorial Service Ministry
- Deacons oversee memorial service arrangements at the church and support the family through hospitality and prayer.
- New Member Ministry
- Deacons provide hospitality and leadership for MVPC Membership gatherings.
- Visitation/Calling Team
- Deacons make home visits to elderly or shut-in members of our church family, as well as hospital or convalescent home visits to those who are sick. Regular phone calls are also an important part of deacon ministry.
- Young Believers
- Deacons maintain contact with college students away from home, encouraging them in their faith during this important time of their lives.
