Answers:

  1. 1. The National AIDS Memorial, located in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, is a living tribute to all whose lives have been touched by AIDS. Our mission is to provide a healing sanctuary, to increase awareness of this national treasure, and to promote learning and understanding of the human tragedy of the AIDS pandemic.
  2. 2. QUEST developed a relationship with the NAMG in May of 2011 during the 30 Hour Famine, they embraced us and our efforts to help eradicate starvation and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. We saw the NAMG as a place we (QUEST) can interact locally with others that desire to see the HIV/AIDS pandemic neutralized.
  3. 3. No, each workday is attended by many other grouops ranging from other Christian groups to local Bay Area Businesses and Organizations to family members & friends of lost loved ones to HIV/AIDS.
  4. 4. On the third Saturday of each month from March through October, volunteers help with the work of creating and maintaining the Grove. Individuals and groups of volunteers participate in gardening activities: clearing weeds and debris, mulching and hauling topsoil, planting new trees and shrubs, and other related activities within the Grove. 5. 5. Yes, we typically have several adults that volunteer QUEST, including Matt Plotkin, Middle School Ministries Director attend and participate.
  6. 6. We will be taking personal vehicles driven by the adults that are going on the trip.
  7. 7. Anyone, if your whole family wants to come along, please do!
  8. 8. Gloves and tools are provided, although many volunteers bring their own gloves. We suggest that you wear sturdy shoes and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat or cap. No open toe shoes will be permitted. Please wear sturdy clothing (jeans and long-sleeved shirts are suggested) as we have discovered a few areas where poison oak is growing. Please advise your group of this fact; additionally, all volunteers are briefed on how to avoid coming into contact with the plant.
  9. 9. Coffee and bagels are provided first thing in the morning. At noon we stop work and gather for a circle ceremony where announcements are read, the group observes a moment of silence for those we have lost, acknowledges the sponsors of the day, and may plant a memorial tree as a group. The Grove’s generous in-kind donors provide coffee, cold drinks (soda and water), and bagels/pastries at the start of the day. We also provide lunch to all volunteers at 12:30 p.m.
  10. 10. Yes... I will sign off for the hours spent working.
  11. 11. Send Sharon Moore an email to indicate you are joining us, make sure MVPC has a current MVPC Student Ministries Medical Release Form on file, and fill out the NAMG Release Form. Then show up on Saturday morning.
