Denomination

On Sunday, June 14, 2015, the membership of Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church voted by an overwhelming majority (92%) to change our denominational affiliation from the PCUSA to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC). On Sunday morning, January 10, 2016, in a combined worship service, our pastors, elders and deacons were ordained and installed by EPC commissioners, and our congregation was officially welcomed into the EPC.

We are excited to be affiliated with the EPC  a denomination of over 570 churches with nearly 150,000 members, that is actively involved in communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ, planting churches, and global mission. MVPC is part of the EPC’s Presbytery of the Pacific, where our congregation is one of 65 churches from California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Western Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii.

The EPC is a denomination formed in 1981 and had its beginning in the Reformation under John Calvin (1509-1564). The Constitution of the EPC consists of the Book of Order (which includes direction for governance, discipline and worship) , the Westminster Confession of Faith (the doctrinal standard, that also includes the Larger Catechism and Shorter Catechism), and the document Essentials of our Faith (that all ordained officers in the church must affirm). All these documents are subordinate to Scripture, which is “the supreme and final authority” on all matters on which it speaks.
