Women's Ministries is committed to developing women into women who know God's word. A variety of classes held weekday mornings on-campus are designed to do just that. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, there is a study for you.

Each week begins with small groups meeting to discuss the week’s scripture passage in a loving, inviting setting. (No prior knowledge of studying the Bible is needed.) We then gather in the Fellowship Hall to hear from one of our speakers who teaches directly from the Bible (expanding on the day’s study)—what it says, what it means, and how we can apply it to our lives right now. This year our inspiring team of teachers are Betty Gilliland, Cheryl Grubbs, Jenifer Wines, Kristen Maloney, Kathy Franklin, Tori Dabasinskas and Karen Slocum.

2007-2008 Study: Genesis

Do you remember Julie Andrews, in The Sound of Music, teaching her young charges to sing?  "Let's start at the very beginning; it's a very good place to start..."  Well, starting at the beginning is always a good idea, and this year we're doing exactly that.  Our study is Genesis, the first book of the Bible.  Genesis itself begins with "In the beginning...," which means we'll start with how it all began.  What better way to understand God's plan for the world, and our role in it, than to begin at the beginning?

As literature, Genesis is packed with compelling drama and powerful themes: creation and goodness, undone by evil, rebellion, death, and destruction, yet countered by grace, mercy, redemption, and hope.  But Genesis is not just a story, not even just a good story.  It is God's story: He is the author and principal actor.  This is God's story of His relationship with His people, with us, His beloved children.

Early on, He reveals Himself as our Creator and loving Father; but we rebel and turn away from Him.  Still He loves us and has a plan to bring us back into relationship with Him.  Throughout Genesis we see God laying the foundation for all that is to come in the New Testament, for the day His son Jesus Christ will take away our sin on the cross and restore us to our Father.

Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham and Isaac, Jacob and Joseph-they are our roots, our beginnings.  We are drawn to their stories because they are our stories too.  Come, walk with our ancestors, live their stories and know their God, the one true God who loves us still.  These are stories to know and tell the next generation.
